Fiona von Fürstenberg (b. 1998) is a Brazilian artist of German-Italian descent working between São Paulo and London. Through abstract mark-making, her practice explores themes of spirituality, space and time. For von Fürstenberg, painting is an extension of prayer. It is the space where the “active life” meets the contemplative life. Engaging with ideas of temporal perception, von Fürstenberg draws on the notion that time is experienced through consciousness, where even natural cycles shift depending on attention and feeling. Ultimately, her work proposes painting as both image and experience.
